Building Campus Pride

Albert is currently the principal of McAllen High School in McAllen, Texas. He is working for a forward thinking district that believes strongly in the importance of students using and learning with technology effectively. His district has committed to being 1:1 and is in the process of placing an iPad in the hands of every student and teacher. Albert enjoys learning from others on social media, either through Twitter chats or by following educational leaders. He is currently serving as a committee member for iPadpalooza STX. His students affectionately call him the Twitter King!

Pedro Alvarez, Jr. is the Principal of McAllen Memorial High School in McAllen Texas. He has worked to improve low performing campuses exit out of school improvement status. At Rowe High School he worked with a team of administrators and teachers to help the campus exit out of AYP and as the Principal of Lincoln Middle School collaborated with teachers to exit School Improvement status. He continues to collaborate with educators to build a positive school culture for the improvement of student success. Mr. Alvarez is currently serving as a committee member for iPadpalooza South Texas. He is a part of a group of forward thinking administrator working toward improving technology in the classroom and building school culture.

Tina has been a STEM School Librarian for the past 4 years and has previously presented on STEM in the Library, Makerspaces, Global Connections, E-Books and Digital Resources. She is an active member of the Texas Library Association, Texas Computer Library Association and an advisory board member for the Mackin Educational Resources Transform Your School Library movement. Recently she served the Texas Library Association as a member of the Children’s Round Table Selection Committee, Program Committee, and co-chaired the Texas Bluebonnet Award Luncheon in 2016.

Nancy Jo Lambert is a high school teacher librarian in Frisco Independent School District at Reedy High School. She has five years of classroom teaching experience and has been in a school library since 2010.

She has library experience at the early childhood, elementary, and high school levels. She is a presenter and speaker who advocates for libraries by telling the story of the learning happening in her library. She is a passionate educator and an avid learner and reader. She holds positions in the Texas Library Association. She is an active member of the American Library Association, American Association of School Librarians, the Texas Association of School Librarians, and the Texas Computer Education Association. She has been published in professional journals and has won numerous awards and grants. Nancy Jo Lambert is a reviewer for School Library Journal and has been published in several professional journals.

Jeremy Stewart (@J_Stew314) is an assistant principal at College View High School in College Station ISD, College Station, TX. Jeremy earned his Masters of Education from Sam Houston State University and co-created a district-wide Twitter chat, #CSISDchat, this past fall with @aaron_hogan. He has served in multiple capacities; elementary and middle school special education teacher, TAP mentor teacher, CPI coordinator, SEL team leader, and Coaching Crew team member. He aspires to be a campus principal and eventually a superintendent.

One of the main focuses Jeremy has for the students and staff at College View High School is to increase the opportunities to practice creativity and question “why do we do what we do?”. Inspired by Dave Burgess’ (@BurgessDave) book, “Teach Like a Pirate.”, Jeremy continually asks his colleagues, “If our students did not have to be at school, would they continue to come?”

One of the ways Jeremy’s team is answering this question is by completely overhauling their instructional practices by implementing #geniushour campus-wide and moving to a #BlendEd instructional model with #PBL, #Flipped, and a mixture of face-to-face and online instruction. Furthermore, he also connects his students with local professionals in the community by bringing them in to share what education and skills are required to reach their career goals.

Stuart Kelly (@stuartkellynz) is a Deputy Principal at Aorere College in Auckland, New Zealand. Stuart has a Masters in Education Management (Hons) from University of Auckland and is a Google Certified Trainer. A firm believer in the notion of #oneteam and #oneclassroom, he is constantly trialing new pedagogical practices with his highly enthusiastic students. Stuart does everything possible to ensure that student choice and agency is ever-present in his learning spaces. As head of Aorere Digital, his school’s digital transformation programme, he has experienced first hand the dramatic ability of edtech to open up classrooms and open up futures for the students of Aorere College and beyond. Committed to ensuring that Aorere College students have learning resources and options as advanced as any students globally, Stuart is quite happy to be seen as a veritable #edtech “nutty professor.” Originally an English teacher and still prominent in the classroom with a committed fail-forward pedagogy, Stuart is also highly active in global edtech, speaking and presenting across Australasia and through his role as founder of #digitaledchat, a leading #edtech chat in New Zealand. Stuart loves nothing better than sharing with educators from around the world.
